BECHAMEL SAUCE-----FOR LASAGNA

  • 4 Tbsp. butter

  • 1/3 cup flour

  • 2 1/4 cups milk

  • salt to taste

  • pinch of nutmeg

On low heat, melt butter in a skillet. Slowly sift flour in, a little at a time, while continuing to stir. Add the milk a little at a time, again, while stirring. Increase the heat and bring the mixture to a boil....while stirring slowly. It should begin to thicken. Take off the heat. Now stir in the pinch of nutmeg and dash of salt.

I fix my "homemade" lasagna the quick and easy way and then just recently started adding in this homemade bechamel sauce. So, prepare your lasagna noodles and sauce however you choose. In a 9x13 casserole dish, I layer mine like this: (sorry it's lengthy)---meat sauce, noodles, meat sauce, bechamel, shredded mozzarella, noodles, meat sauce, shredded mozzarella, noodles, meat sauce, bechamel sauce, and top with a layer of sliced provolone.
